The End of an Era: Rolls-Royce Dawn Out of Production

This model will remain in the memory of all fans forever. Rolls-Royce. The famous British brand has decided to discontinue the production of the Dawn model, which is the most luxurious convertible from the “Rolls” stable. After 8 years adventure, the company decided to take a step forward – unfortunately, there is no room for a phenomenal cabriolet. However, the Rolls-Royce Dawn fulfilled its role – attracted new customers to the brand and was the best-selling Rolls-Royce convertible in history.

Rolls-Royce Dawn – even for this price range – is no longer the youngest wonder of the brand. The model was introduced in 2015, so it was produced for almost a decade. Dawn was a direct successor to another convertible of the British brand, the Phantom Drophead Coupe. After all these years, we can say with full responsibility that it fulfilled this honor with dignity, and even surpassed its predecessor in many respects.

Fans of the brand will certainly notice that both models were very different from each other. That’s true! Although they come from the “same line”, they were aimed at different customers. Phantom Drophead Coupe, produced from 2007 to 2016, is a more massive car, with a higher class and more functions. In turn, the Dawn model was to attract wealthy but still relatively young people, which is why this Rolls was designed to a lower standard and he had more sporty character, but still retained the original shapes typical of the British brand. Both classics were also different price which was more affordable for the Dawn model.

The sun sets on Rolls Royce’s best-selling convertible. It’s time for luxury electrics

What were the reasons for withdrawal? Rolls-Royce from producing such an iconic and profitable model? The Dawn certainly had its day, although its predecessor was produced for a year longer. Eight years is a long time for one car model. But there are other, more important reasons. The world is changing, and the automotive industry with it. Rolls-Royce – like many other manufacturers in the industry – is moving towards the “electrification” of its offering. The Dawn model will be replaced by electric cars, and the direct successor will be Specter.

“As Dawn’s production comes to an end, we can reflect on this extraordinary chapter in the brand’s history. This beautiful car perfectly embodies contemporary luxury while celebrating the brand’s founding principles and heritage.” – Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd., summed up the end of production of the model in a statement.
